Summary:

As dusk falls, the bloody figures rise in honor of the Veri festival. They gather around their king, for he is the blood that heralds a new beginning.

The price for the city of Avastone was blood. Blood that will flow eternally through the River Mandalay to maintain peace between humans and Wycca.

When Raevan Tennyson becomes king against his will, he is forced to conceal the extent of his power. Centuries of war have instilled in the people a deep fear of the Wycca, and Raevan is the deadliest of them all.
